Look across the lawn (which needs to be mowed) to see....
The cutter ants are back. Removed all the leaves off the top of Climbing Pinkie rose. (Insert really large "sigh" here.)
Look to the left to see my dog has been digging under the castor bean.
And all along the pathway from the side yard to the patio....
Insert music here.
"Bring On The Rain"
Another day has almost come and gone
Can't imagine what else could wrong
Sometimes I'd like to hide away somewhere and lock the door
A single battle lost but not the war ('cause)
Tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain
It's almost like the hard times circle 'round
A couple drops and they all start coming down
Yeah, I might feel defeated,
I might hang my head
I might be barely breathing - but I'm not dead
Tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain
I'm not gonna let it get me down
I'm not gonna cry
And I'm not gonna lose any sleep tonight.

Think I will go and get me some tea and a tissue.
And a hoe.
And some ant killer.

Oh dear. Those pesky ants again. You'll get it under control, I'm sure. Maybe a good hard freeze would take care of the ant problem? I know it wouldn't be good for plants, but you can cover them or bring them in?
Hoping your gardening woes are few Cindy!
Yaya, you keep me humble. How dare I complain when their are truly things more important than my ants. You are in my prayers.
sniff.
sigh, OK, I'm fine.
What the heck are cutter ants?
Actually, my little GS had his first visit to his Dr. today, and my Son tells me he gave him a good report. It just totally cheered me up. That's why I'm out and about visiting blogs, :)
p.s We also have a never ending battle with ants, but not cutter ants....fire ants! Also some other kind of small black ants, they're everywhere, but they don't seem to do any harm. We need a good freeze to curb the insect population. Maybe this year?
Cutter ants - cut leaves and take them into their nest. The queen inoculates the decaying leaves with a fungus which spreads to all leaves collected. The fungus left is what the ants consume. Difficult to kill the nest since their den is deep in the ground. The queen can take the fungus and start a new community. The worker ants do not pick up pesticide baits and are difficult to spray. The workers will not "cut" leaves of plants where a systemic insecticide is used.
They love roses.
