Phoenix Rising

Dame de Coeur has rebounded from being cut to the ground on 6/10/10 after the storm. Perfect shot to inspire me to join Gardener Bloom Day.

(Got a birdhouse to share with the world? Birdhouse Thursdays at CheepRooms!)

What is left of the back yard - 6 large hackberry trees used to shade this nicely in the morning.

In a little pocket next to the berry boat, the plumbago is blooming next to the chili petin.

Japanese button bush.

A crocosmia (George Davidson, perhaps) next to the white philippine lily leaves
that have sprouted all over the yard.

Climbing Pinkie looking a little unkempt since the fencing behind her got removed and rebuilt.

Another phoenix in the backyard is the Red Fountain rose.
Up and blooming since her pruning within 12" of her life.

Blooms!

My second spring with my "Sunshine" blueberries. I am so pleased I just had to share these flowers with the world.

Blueberries do not like the alkaline soil of west of interstate 45. These are being grown in my "berry boat" full of rose soil and pine needles to acidify the pH . Of course every time I turn on the water faucet the soil gets more and more alkaline. "Sunshine" is one variety said to be more tolerant of heat and our alkaline conditions. So far, so good!

Even though there are only a few leaves I do love their fall/winter color. Won't be long now before this little bush will be all covered in green (and blue!).

Just because it is winter - there are blooms to be seen.

Catch them here: Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day.
