Last shot at the Wolf Moon

Late night at work. Luckily the party was not as wild as a full moon would lead one to believe.

Second night of this 2010 Wolf moon, came up and looked so large in the sky. Had to try to take some shots at her again. Not too bad for no tripod. This is the least shaky of the shots as it was in the low 30's and dropping.

Not to worry - no more shots of the moon as we are under some really dreary clouds today. Still in the 30's here. (I am such a whiner....)

Did I mention the wind chill is 28 degrees?

The Wolf Moon - brightest moon of 2010. (Does that mean we should not bother to view her for the rest of the year?) A wee faint white spot to the left is Mars. Also at its closest to Earth today.

Not a big fan of the whole climate change manipulation but I do enjoy the nightly reports provided by EarthSky. If you want to know what that bright spot in the sky is - look it up here.

If you folks are into telescopes - check out Sky and Telescope's site for more detailed things to view in the night sky. If that is not enough detail then try this one.... Your Sky.

Brrrrrr! Off to bundle up.

Full Moon Update

Got this photo at 6:45 a.m.

Took the photos in the dark as the moon was in and out of really fast moving clouds. I did turn my hummingbird wind motor around for Cheri.

Humidity continues today. Most of the first photos looked like this.

At 7 a.m. 81 degrees and 83.7% humidity. Ughh.

Full moon bloom

Ok, guys, what is the correct name of this?

I have "googled" Night blooming Cereus and Orchid cactus.... Not a Night blooming Cereus as they have a rounded stem? Not an orchid cactus as the blooms do not seem to match this one?

I would appreciate your help.

Note to my sweetie.... I got a piece of this plant from Chrissy years ago. I put in on the base of the pot of the Forest Pansy redbud tree. It has laid there for years (at least 3) and this year it really took off growing.

Let the dogs out the back door this morning (slept in 7:30 - it's my day off) and saw this huge white bloom. I have missed one flower bloom - probably happened on the 4th the actual Full Moon. There are more buds waiting in the wings for their moment in the dark. ;D
