Blotanical Version 2

#BlotanicalV2

Members of Blotanical Unite! Stuart is knee deep in Version 2 of Blotanical. Looks like this new version will be ready in February 2012. Go by and see what he has been up to at the Blotanical Blog. Twitter here.

If by any chance you are a gardener, like to blog about it and somehow not a member of Blotanical.... it is something you really must take a moment to see. Blotanical is a great way to meet garden bloggers from around the world. (I have found folks in India and Australia growing the same plants as I have in my gardens - it is a small world you know.)

Beware, this can be addicting.

A New Mantra

I apologize. It seems this summer's endless watering has sucked the life out of me. As some may know, my plants had been sequestered in kiddie pools under some market umbrellas for our trip earlier this month. Well, they are still there. I haven't the heart to bring the poor babies back out into the constant baking sunshine just yet.

Some are thriving, really thriving.

And then there is my poor hibiscus. First I should ask, is it just me, or were there no hibiscus being sold this summer? Is it my location in Fort Worth? It is one of my favorite summertime flowers and since I lost all (like a dozen) during the Frozen in FW fiasco I was really looking forward to replacements. My inventory currently consists of two, but I really don't think this one counts.

'Cause if I put it in a pretty collage it won't look so bad?

Yes, I have used the water hose to blast them, organic washes, chemical sprays, even a systemic (which is not recommended for potted plants). The only time it has looked good this summer is just after a sprinkle of rain. So that was twice. Maybe next year.

I sat down this morning with a new will to get back into blogging and get some gardening encouragement/reinforcement from the blogging world. Surprisingly the inspiration I received from the blogging world today was not the plant material.

CreeksideRummager has some new ducks, Carol at SilverSprings has this really cool rock (possibly, tufa), then a visit to a new to me blogger on Blotanical, Linniew at "Women Who Run With Delpheniums" has this posting "Concrete Doesn't Wilt". Linniew, you see, has "Flora" in her garden.

Plants may come and go, but my mantra for today is "Concrete Doesn't Wilt".

It's like I took a wrong turn in Fort Worth

I went to see my sweetie during the long weekend. Since my days off are in the middle of the week (retail girl that I am) I had almost a week up north.

I had to call into work on Tuesday and one of the girls told me it had been raining. I thought it would just be a passing thing. It was sunny and quite warm in Arlington this week. (Stay tuned for those photos.)

Coming home today I drove on wet streets through Waco and Austin. As I traveled I heard on the radio of flash flood warnings for near-by counties Hayes and Bexar. When I crossed the Guadalupe bridge and looked down I took a double take. Fast flowing chocolate brown water much higher on the banks. Could it be? Has it really been raining?

The local streets were full of puddles, the flood ditches flowing and Maldonado's tank is full again.
I get to my back yard and see .....

Three and 1/2 inches! No telling what was lost to evaporation.

Temperatures in the 70's? Did I land in Seattle? How long was I gone? A whole season?
Wow!Sombreuil greeted me with great new blooms. She also has new growth and more buds ready to burst.

It was a great trip. One is always happy to get home (a little bittersweet without my sweetie). How fantastic to be home to a revitalized world.

Thanks to the folks who find me through Blotanical. Hope you will visit again. (11,000+ hits! I think my counter is broken! No, really.)

Alive and well in TEXAS...

Ooops.

Have added my garden to Blotanical and see some of you folks have stopped by for a view. Hmmmmm... my listing would indicate I am in Australia. I am sorry if you have found me by this error but glad you are here none the less.

Have contacted the great folks at Blotanical and I am certain I will soon be on the Texas map.
