Lion's Tail (Leonotis leonurus) not to be confused with Lion's Ear (Leonotis nepetifolia)
both native to South Africa
Lion's tail has long leaves, Lion's ear has rounder leaves. Lion's Ear can be found in Mexico but is considered an annual in gardens around here. The Lion's Tail should be a root hardy perennial here. Sorry I do not have a Lion's Ear to show, I forgot to sow the seeds this spring.
Mountain Sage (Salvia regla) native to the Chisos Mountains in West Texas
and portions of Mexico (probably Regla, Hidalgo, Mexico)
Both of these specimens are in the mint family, both start blooming last summer and if warm enough would continue their show through the winter. We shall see how they do here this winter.
