Another Road Trip Proposed

Think this may be fun and educational since backyard chicken coops are all the rage these days. Wonder what the landlord will say with this addition?

I say go for it!!! I've been trying to convince hubby we need chickens for 3 years now.

I would probably be in jail for murdering the neighbor or maybe the other way around!

LVL, am I going to be too noisy with a chicken coop?

I use to have chickens and I loved them. Keepiing the safe from predators was the biggest challenge. But since I'm allergic to eggs now there is no longer much point to me having them.

As long as you don't have a rooster, TG, I think you will be fine! Like creekside rummager says predators are the biggest problem. It will be fun to watch!

Oh, no, CreeksideRummager, I can not imagine being allergic to eggs.

I am looking at the chickens as little tillers for the bugs and weeds and improving the soil around the building. Eggs would just be a bonus.

Hi Tufa Girl, I completely agree with creekside rummager; the predators are THE biggest problem. And most especially dogs, who will kill an entire flock just for the sport of it. I have a lot of spruce trees in my yard, so when they are threatened the Girls know to head under them, but even so, I've lost two or three to neighborhood dog thugs. And as LVL says, roosters are noisy (and can be mean) but the Girls are very quiet and make adorable clucking sounds. I'm down to 5 hens now and still average about three eggs a day. And they are eggcelent!
