Remember those that are still rebuilding

Lighthouse at Bolivar Peninsula (built in 1872 - retired in 1933) has made it through many a storm including Hurricane Ike - 9/13/09. (The third most destructive hurricane to ever make landfall in the United States. Read more at Wikipedia.)

This photo taken on a street just off "The Strand" in Galveston.

Photos taken on 5/20/09 on our day trip through Bolivar Island, Galveston and points beyond.

SkyWatch Friday photos.

Despite their real locations, the lighthouse looks oriental and the row of houses could be in England!

I really like that area of the Gulf. Beautiful homes and lovely beaches. But somehow prone to hurricanes.

Bolivar Peninsula is one of our favorite places in the US. I posted on Bolivar today also.
We love birding along the coast.

And the houses on stills made it too? That's a lot of water. Excellent captures.

Amazing the lighthose is still standing after all these years. Ike is the hurricane everybody forgot about, except those affected.

So pretty. Yet another reason to love our great state.

Beautiful snaps. Amazed by the amount of time the lighthouse has been intact in the face of storms.

Having lived through the no name storm and a few other heavy duty hurricanes on the east coast can appreciate how much they hurt.

Lovely photos to share with Sky Watch Friday fans.
