Every year I promise I will not let the coral vine take over the patio area. It struggled the first year, the second year it kept the cutter ants from finding the 'Red Fountain' rose (you can see one red bloom in the lower left of photo). Last year the bees were having such a good time. This year with the drought I did not have the heart.
I did hang a bit of shade fabric over the area so the coral vine would have a place to climb across and people could still walk under it all. Now the coral vine has created this great fringe over the edge of the shade fabric just softening the whole area. It is nice and dark under the fabric now. And the little miniature roses are still blooming under it all.
