Gory Details

Gov. Perry home from the campaign trail to meet with local officials regarding the Texas wildfires. Local news only carried part of his address to the media. The part that hit me the hardest: "Since December... we have lost more than 3.5 million acres to brush fires, that is an area larger than the state of Connecticut ... over 1000 homes. "

Texas Forest Service: map of current fire activity

Pray for Texas.

Sad - so many things like this in recent times. Also scary.

Cindy, I was looking at video of Texas fires last night before I went to bed. This is so incredibly sad. I was watching a video where the reporter asked an evacuated family whose home was probably burning, "You've seen these reports on the news before, probably---but what does it feel like when it's your own home that's being destroyed?"

When I heard the reporter ask this incredibly stupid question in a rather smarmy voice, I just gasped. I couldn't believe he could be so insensitive. It annoyed me so much that I wanted to hit him myself. What an idiot.

But the people being interviewed were so calm and heroic and didn't whack the dufus, instead they were courteous and dignified which is much more restraint than the guy with the microphone deserved.

Our prayers go out to the people of Texas. Please, stay safe.

That's an amazing picture and it sure gives you an idea of how dangerous fire can be. I only just heard about the wildfires recently but after hearing through fellow bloggers like yourself about how hot and dry the summer has been I suppose it isn't a huge surprise. Just hope your weather changes for the better and soon.

I grew up in CA, where fires are a constant summer threat. They are so terrifying. You and Texas are in my daily prayers. It has to rain eventually! Stay safe.
