Shopping for Inside Projects

Saturday, we took a trip looking for rusty stuff for the loft apartment. Trade days were going on outside McKinney but we decided it was way too hot. We decided to check out downtown instead.

Unlike downtown in most Texas towns, this was a bustling place on a Saturday. Perhaps we will find some treasures today.

Not really a crafty girl, I did enjoy the curtains in the restroom. Sorry my flash was not working. Basically, guaze-ey material tied up to a rod with ribbon and old keys. That is an old water pump in the middle.

Thanks to CreeksideRummager I am on an eternal quest of old mattress springs. These springs are from an old baby bed. I do like the "framing".

These springs are from an old chair. Maybe next time.

Remember temperatures are running in the 100+ daily here. Each corner of the downtown square has these magnificent planters. They actually look like they are happy.

Old bank is for sale...

Side of the bank. I love the window film application.

One of my big or I should say heavy purchases was this piece of iron. The white piece above it is a hanging bracket I picked up at Ikea. They were out of the brown version.

I love this iron piece. Even the back side was carefully detailed.

Break in the action. Side trip to the south to get medicine from my vet. No, I have not found a vet closer. This method is working for the moment.

The grass all along the way is just dead.

At the bottom of the photo you can see some liatris just barely hanging on and blooming.

Most of the trees are brown, possibly dead. The mesquite trees seem to be the best source of green in the Texas landscape these days.

Ok, so some folks got a bit of rain. This is the most we got here in Fort Worth. Just enough to wet the window.

Rusty flowers installed and rust applied to the white hanger so they match. Must find another indoor project....

Love your rusty flowers! I agree the Texas landscape right now is very, very sad. I'm afraid all those brown trees are truly dead. :( Sorry you didn't get much rain. There's nothing we can do but keep hoping.

I hope you get more rain soon. It must be frustrating. I love the photos of the old bed springs and iron work...lovely. Thanks for taking us with you.

That looked like a fun field trip, except the fields are turning brown. Oh, I hope this drought ends for you all very soon. It's so hard to believe you've suffered for so long, like a bad winter we have here every now and then.

So many cool ideas out there, I never thought of using bed springs as a wall hanging. You may remember I said Carl has a stash of junk that would make you dizzy if you saw it, right? I could have sent a bed spring home with you! Love the pretty cast iron flowers, they look amazing on your wall.

Did you ever hear of King Architectural Metals? They sell all things ornamental iron and we order from them quite often. No need for a wholesale account and I think one of their branches is in Dallas. I love to just browse their site and look at all the cool things they have.

I love the ironwork and the curtains with the keys is just so cool. I'd only buy the bank if it was full of money. :o) I'm still praying for rain for TX.

OMG what a great score! Love the rust you found. AND the photos of the springs are GREAT! They are such interesting structures. I had to chuckle at the things hanging on your hooks. It looked like it could be my house.

We were just around McKinney. Our daughter is at Austin College in Sherman. We did our share of driving the state this weekend too. It's sad isn't it, seeing all the dead/dying trees...On a bright note though, your treasure hunting proved successful! It's so much fun to rummage around and see what you can find.

Wonderfully eccentric - but how did you make bells ring in my computer?

You do have the coolest gadgets, TG! Like the rust stuff. Wish it would cool down for you'll! It is just ridiculous when the east coast is flooded out! The Herbal Husband always says can't they share it with Texas! Keep trying to stay cool, TG!
