Indoor Gardening

So, I'm perusing Google Reader, being very quiet to not wake my sleeping sweetie (did I mention he works second shift?) and I make a discovery. Indoor gardening.

"Well, TufaGirl, people have been doing that for-ever."

Wait, hear me out. Not the usual collections of either african violets, windowsill herb gardens, or the zone denial plant hoarders like me running from the cold - but indoor gardening.

Here is the inspiration for my "duh?" moment...

"An indoor garden that thrives on water and air"

I love the airplants in the clear hanging bubbles. Very trendy these days. However, my eye went straight to ...

OMG! No leaves from trees to cloud the pool. I can do this! But how do I do this, where do I go... Slow down, Grasshopper, watch this video - all questions will soon be answered.

I love the idea and will be visiting my local aquarium depot. (As soon as I find one...)

This is not a paid endorsement. Like I said - just perusing...

Yes, very interesting and attractive. I got a couple of air plants 2 months ago. But I was with you on my eye going to that large glass container with the water plant. Graceful, simple, beautiful.

Having a son who is a professional aquarist, I found this post amusing and yet fascinating. Not a new concept, he has set up 10K systems devoted to nothing but greenery. Also if you go saltwater, coral tanks are very trendy, beautiful but rarely do they have fish at all. Aquarium plants, like any plants need a little food and the correct light. Ask your local pet store, and get the varieties that are not finicky. The rain forest varieties in require a very narrow range of temperature variation.

Isn't some quiet 'surfing' inspiring? My daughter introduced me to "Stumble Upon" (stumbleupon.com) about a month ago. I set the interest topics (like gardening, etc.) and just see where it takes me. It's hypnotic!

Nice that you let us lean over your shoulder while you quietly surf! Thanks for sharing, TG!

A very interesting idea--the water plants--like the low maintenance aspect. The soft sell in the video was very compelling.

Around here, there's the Austin Pond Society, and I believe they're constantly dividing aquatic plants as you might imagine. I'd be willing to have a 100gallon tank with just plants (and maybe a betta fish).

Oh no, another hobby to explore!! So much fun to cruise the internet and see where you land. The other morning my daughter and I were making felt flowers and I started researching...my mind traveled and I thought maybe I should take up sewing...then immediately I thought, yeah, right, and where will I get the time??!! Too much fun to be had ;)

Thank you for sharing the links. I dive so I gave up my salt water aquariums years ago. The water garden does not seem as much as an eco-threat as having fish. I hope this is true or I'll need to find a way to convince myself that it is. I really want to have one.
