Helleborus Envy

Carolyn of Carolyn's Shade Gardens has increased my love of the helleborus with her many beautiful postings recently. When my sweetie and I were at the FW Botanic Gardens on Sunday I got to have a little moment with the blooms here in Fort Worth. Some day my new garden area will have shade and a place for these beauties.

They are beautiful and I have plans for a shade garden that includes them also. Today I'm planting hosta seeds gathered from my garden in the woods.

Me too!! There have been so many posts about these darling flowers that I too plan to plant them. I have the shade ... now I am looking for the plants here in South Africa!

I'm right in there with you. I have already chosen my hellebore location. So if I don't kill them and I plant them at the right time... who knows. I could succeed.

They certainly are beautiful! They seem to say 'Spring'!

Hi T Girl - I told you thanks so much for your post on my blog. If I've been absent, it's because my broad band intermittently stops working and I have to go off line and start over and sometimes I just get so frustrated I just stop. Anyway - helleborus are wonderful. I had 2 and just bought 3 more. They have been very easy, they withstand our cold weather (20s), they don't require a bunch of summer water.

Tufagirl, Thank you so much for the link to my blog. I am so excited that someone has been inspired by what I wrote. I hope you have hellebores in your garden soon. They are very tough and easy to grow. Carolyn

Sad to say I have been able to kill these too easily! On to the next species!

I have helleborus envy, too. I'm a little east of you, and even though I've never seen any of these IRL, I did plant some last fall. They have not come up.

Your photos are so wonderful; I feel like running out and buying some more hellebores again, but I have not had a good track record with them. I have killed everyone I planted! But I think I should try again, since maybe it was the weather that year. They are so beautiful.
