I will make the trip to the grocery store today not for the charcoal or the hot dog buns but to get the red poppy which I place on my vehicle's visor. I was doing some research on the history of the memorial day poppy and I found this site at Botanical which says it all. Photo from 50%ChanceofRain

When I was a child, paper poppies were always sold at the school for Memorial Day. Also you would see veterns selling them outside of stores. I wonder why that tradition stopped.
