First crop of walnuts

Currently the walnut is a shrubby little tree we have planted in the front area between our driveway and the neighbor's driveway. I have been watering the main areas of the yard once a week and just lay the hose by the walnut tree on a trickle a little more often. This is the first year for fruit and now it looks like I am losing one! (Sorry, sweetie, I will keep an eye on them.)

Not certain which variety this one is... was marked a "Hill Country Walnut".

Oh, how I long for a walnut and almond tree! We have a softshell pecan which produces the biggest pecans. Well, it used to. We have a problem with 'chinch bugs' or 'chinches' attacking the pecans outer green layer. Subsequently, the pecans turn out black and bitter and inedible. Haven't had a good harvest in years because of that. The tree is near our koi pond, so we're wary of applying bug chemicals.

Working with all the organic gurus I do each day, I will try to find a solution for you.

Thank you Cindy! The koi pond is actually right underneath the tree.
