Bit of a Chill

Rain is always welcome in the loft garden. The front currently working its way east also brought our 80 degree temps down to 46 and the northwest wind makes it 37 . Brrr.

Rains have brought a street planting project at my landlord's next building to a stop. Trees could not be brought in due to the storm and now the holes are filled with water. Work will proceed early tomorrow and I promise photos.

Take a moment to say a prayer for the folks in West, Texas. Just stopped in their little community this last Saturday (only an hour's drive south).  How much a world can change in a mattter of moments.

The Weatherman Missed Something

Thursday this front blew threw and broke our 100+ degree streak at 40 days. No rain came to Fort Worth from this. Only 97 degrees on Thursday and then back to over 100 on Friday. Sigh.

Rainy day.

It was 57 degrees on 9/24/09 when I took these photos. All bundled up I was stressing as it seemed as if winter is right around the corner. I need to get my greenhouse completed, shelves built, plants repotted....

It is 90+ degrees today. Plenty of time. Stress over.

Here are some photos from that cold and rainy day.

Took advantage of the cool day to weed the veggie garden. Not much planted this summer as it was a newly created area. Just put some mulch in and had a friend till it all in for me. Planted a few tomatoes, peppers, squash but did not really care for them as the drought and the heat proved never ending.

We have a lot of the little native poinsettia in our backyard. This specimen seems to colored up early this year (maybe since the huge light from the neighbor's yard is history?). Green in the background are some radishes I am hoping will go to seed.

The last of the key limes but looks like the bees have been pollinating for the future crop.

Berry boat is filling in nicely. This is the side with the Chandler. I will have to replant the Sequoia mainly since I did not get the sprinkler close enough to keep them happy.

It's like I took a wrong turn in Fort Worth

I went to see my sweetie during the long weekend. Since my days off are in the middle of the week (retail girl that I am) I had almost a week up north.

I had to call into work on Tuesday and one of the girls told me it had been raining. I thought it would just be a passing thing. It was sunny and quite warm in Arlington this week. (Stay tuned for those photos.)

Coming home today I drove on wet streets through Waco and Austin. As I traveled I heard on the radio of flash flood warnings for near-by counties Hayes and Bexar. When I crossed the Guadalupe bridge and looked down I took a double take. Fast flowing chocolate brown water much higher on the banks. Could it be? Has it really been raining?

The local streets were full of puddles, the flood ditches flowing and Maldonado's tank is full again.
I get to my back yard and see .....

Three and 1/2 inches! No telling what was lost to evaporation.

Temperatures in the 70's? Did I land in Seattle? How long was I gone? A whole season?
Wow!Sombreuil greeted me with great new blooms. She also has new growth and more buds ready to burst.

It was a great trip. One is always happy to get home (a little bittersweet without my sweetie). How fantastic to be home to a revitalized world.
